Lapsang Souchong black tea (also known as Wuyi Bohea) is the first black tea that was ever produced (known as Red Tea in China) centuries ago. It was first brought back to European countries by the Dutch in 1604 and rapidly became popular throughout the rest of Europe. Lapsang Souchong was so popular in Britain that trying to reproduce it inexpensively launched the British tea industry in India.
This smoke Lapsang Souchong is originally from the Tong Mu Guan area in Xin Cun town in the Wuyi region of Fujian province. The farmers and factories in Tong Mu Guan are very famous and only produce a limited quantity of Lapsang Souchong for export. The factory use the traditional way of drying the leaves with pine wood. This gives the tea a special smoky aroma and flaovr.
