Description Brewing Guide

In the Spring of 2011, I went to Taiwan for a tea buying trip. Luckily, I found a very nice 30 year old charcoal roasted aged oolong tea.

It was stored in a large, glazed clay container and was tightly sealed by a wooden cover with wax. Once the cover was opened, a raisin aroma enterred my nose. I realized instantly that it must be a very high quality aged oolong tea.

The leaves are rolled into a half-ball shape with a little tail which resembles the dragonfly.  Due to the tea's age and its well storage, the smokey flavor is quite mellow. The tea soup is clear and has a red/brown color.

Sipping the tea, and swishing it around the mouth, the taste buds feeling is awaken up by the prune-like flavor. And then an interesting cool and dry feeling goes to the back and underside of the tongue. Most oolongs has sweet taste after three brews or more. This one comes in the first infusion.

The body is smooth and rich. The taste is  complex and satisfying. The "Qi" comes slowly at the begging and then become pronounced and strong.

Aged Beauty November 21, 2013
Reviewer: Jozef Pisko-Dubienski from Kelowna, BC Canada
This tea is one of Daniel's best aged teas. When you first try the tea there is an amazing spicy-fruity flavour. Further brews reveal the true complexity of the tea, with a very interesting taste developing towards the year of the tongue. This is an excellent tea to share with friends (as I often do) because it lends itself to much conversation, with each tea drinker finding something special and unique about the tea. For any serious aged oolong drinker I strongly suggest this tea.

Stellar October 6, 2013
Reviewer: Joe P. from Philadelphia region, Oreland, PA United States
This was the first time I've tried aged oolong and was very pleased.  I made it in a small Yixing pot and progressed through about 8 infusions.  The first infusion was mostly deep honey, very slight smoke and floral like honey suckle.  Subsequent steepings revealed more pronounced cinnamon, raisins, nutmeg and prune.  This tea is very sweet and delicious.
